Kubica named Williams' reserve driver

Williams has named Robert Kubica as its reserve and development driver for the 2018 Formula 1 season. Kubica was the early frontunner to get the race seat alongside Lance Stroll but ultimately lost out to Sergey Sirotkin. The two drivers tested for Williams in Abu Dhabi last year, with Sirotkin clearly proving he was the quickest of the two. When it became clear a race seat was not possible, Kubica and his team switched attention to securing an alternative. After weeks of discussions, a deal for a supporting role was agreed, with Kubica helping drive car performance and development.
