Norris does not get top marks after first win in Formula One

Lando Norris won for the first time in Formula 1, but does not get the top mark after the Grand Prix weekend in Miami. That honour goes to Max Verstappen, even though the Dutchman does not get a perfect score either. Check out GPblog's ratings for the Miami GP here and see the standings in the GPblog ranking below.

Norris: 8

Lando Norris actually drove a disappointing weekend for someone who was the only one with all of McLaren's updates. The Briton was beaten by his teammate in sprint qualifying and sprint race, after which Norris could not make a big difference in qualifying either. In the race, however, Norris drove a very good, long stint on the medium tyre and took full advantage of the strange situation with the safety car.

Verstappen: 9

Max Verstappen drove a near-perfect weekend in Miami, leaving with the most points. The Dutchman was again clearly the strongest man at Red Bull Racing, taking his sixth pole position in 2024. According to Christian Horner, his contact with the pole resulted in damage that caused him to lose a lot of pace. Whether he would have won without that damage, we will never know.

Leclerc: 7

Charles Leclerc drove a strong weekend for Ferrari. The Italians came up short against Red Bull and McLaren, so third place is a neat result.

Perez: 6

Sergio Perez had a difficult weekend in Miami, getting away especially well at the start on Sunday. The Mexican almost knocked himself and Verstappen out of the race with a bizarre action at the first corner.

Sainz: 6

Carlos Sainz seemed a bit irritated driving around Miami on Sunday. The duel with Oscar Piastri did not go to his liking and he made some interesting moves. It eventually cost Sainz fourth place.

Hamilton: 6

Lewis Hamilton improved during the Grand Prix with some good overtaking. It was a big contrast to the sprint race, where Hamilton drove too fast through the pits and allowed himself to be trounced in duels with Kevin Magnussen on several occasions.

Tsunoda: 7

Yuki Tsunoda saw his teammate take the honours on Saturday, but over the whole weekend Yuki still scored the most points again. Finishing eighth in the sprint race and seventh in the main race, the Japanese driver is doing what he has been doing all this year: consistently performing and racking up points for his team.

Russell: 5

George Russell was faster than his teammate in qualifying but struggled badly in the race. While Hamilton still impressed with some overtaking actions, Russell did not get past anyone.

Alonso: 6

A colourless weekend for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin, but with two points, the Spaniard still ends the weekend somewhat with a smile.

Ocon: 7

It should come as no surprise that Esteban Ocon scored the first point for Alpine. All season, Ocon has been the better of the two Alpine's. In Miami, he was helped somewhat by a pit stop under the virtual safety car, but he managed to take good advantage of that.

Hulkenberg: 7

Nico Hulkenberg scored points again for Haas on Saturday and continues to impress with strong qualifying performances.

Gasly: 6

Pierre Gasly did not drive a bad weekend for Alpine. In the sprint race, Gasly finished ahead of his teammate and just missed out on points at P9. In qualifying, Gasly was also ahead of his teammate but still lost the race due to the safety car.

Piastri: 7

Oscar Piastri only had half the updates at his disposal this weekend making the fact he was faster in sprint qualifying all the more impressive. Piastri cleverly passed Leclerc and, without a safety car, looked to be on his way to a good result. However, that safety car came and a clumsy move by Sainz ended the Australian's race.

Zhou: 6

Guanyu Zhou wasn't highlighted a lot in Miami, but did finish ahead of his teammate this weekend.

Ricciardo: 6

From Hero to Zero. Daniel Ricciardo wanted to silence all his critics after his P4 in the sprint race. A good result, but consistent performance is needed if he wants any chance of getting a seat at Red Bull Racing. That once again failed to happen. Ricciardo's qualifying was a major disappointment and in the race he could not manage much either.

Bottas: 5

Valtteri Bottas had a mediocre weekend for Stake F1, where he was mainly frustrated by a suddenly announced new race engineer.

Stroll: 5

Lance Stroll steered into his teammate in the sprint race and did not feature in the Grand Prix either.

Albon: 5

Alexander Albon was not in good form this weekend. Beaten in the sprint shootout by his teammate, although that was by exceeding the track limits, and also finished behind his teammate in the sprint race. In the race, Albon finished, but only ahead of Magnussen who was saddled with a mountain of penalties.

Magnussen: 3

Whether each penalty was justified or not, Kevin Magnussen left a very bad impression in Miami and is very close to a race ban. The Dane says it's down to the stewards, but surely it will also really be down to Magnussen himself to some extent.

Sargeant: 6

Logan Sargeant, in a weekend when it became clear that Williams wants to get rid of him, drove solidly. In the sprint format he was ahead of his teammate, finishing tenth in the sprint race and in qualifying he was not far behind Albon. The crash in the race was Magnussen's fault, although in that situation Sargeant himself lacks the racing skills to estimate that Magnussen could still be sitting there.
