Perez wanted more despite ‘special podium’ result

Sergio Perez celebrates third in his home GP Sergio Perez has described finishing third in the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix as “something very special”. The Mexican followed home his Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, despite a late charge to steal away second place. With an 11-lap tyre advantage in the final stint, Perez closed a nearly nine-second advantage in the final third of the race, only to fall short at the chequered flag.
