Zanardi stable, serious, no further updates until condition changes

The hospital treating Alex Zanardi says he remains in a serious but stable condition and will no longer issue medical updates unless his prognosis changes. Zanardi, 53, was involved in a road collision in his native Italy on Friday and was immediately transferred to Siena’s University Hospital. Doctors carried out neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery to address a severe head injury, after which Zanardi was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. The hospital has since issued regular official bulletins on his condition and on Wednesday posted that he had spent a fifth night without substantial changes in his condition.
