George Russell: First F1 season a “steep learning curve”
George Russell has said that his first season in Formula 1 has been a “steep learning curve” after winning the Formula 2 championship in 2018 to then driving at the back of the grid for Williams. Russell has been a part of Mercedes’ junior driver programme since 2017 having tested for Force India (now SportPesa Racing Point) before being given a seat at Williams alongside Robert Kubica for 2019. The 21-year old made the most that he could with the slowest car on the grid, out-qualifying Kubica at all 21 races and finishing ahead the majority of the time during races.
