Hamilton tops opening practice at Suzuka – FP1 Report

Japanese Grand Prix – Lewis Hamilton topped the opening free practice session ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas as neither Mercedes driver used the fastest tyre. The current championship leader set the early pace at the Suzuka circuit despite only using the soft-compound tyre, the ‘middle' compound this weekend. His time of 1:28.691 was around half-a-second faster than team-mate Bottas, who set his best time on the medium tyre, the most durable compound made available for this event. Daniel Ricciardo went third fastest for Red Bull, albeit several tenths down. He completed the highest number of laps in the dry session, with many teams anticipating rain for free practice two....
