Extra soft set may aid Mercedes challenge, says Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo believes an extra set of new soft tyres that he has available for the Malaysian Grand Prix means Mercedes may not be ‘out of reach’. The Australian, who starts fourth on an all Red Bull second row, managed to hold back a set of softs by running with mediums in Q1 – and he believes it could hand him a little advantage in the race. Drivers will have to use a set of hards at some point of the race, with the fastest strategy appearing to be two stints on softs and one of hards. If Red Bull can stay in touch of Mercedes, then the pace advantage a new set of softs can give could help deliver Ricciardo a decent undercut – which could prove key if Nico Rosberg and Lewis...
