Allison: 'F1 set to smash records in 2017'

Ferrari's Technical Director James Allison says that Formula 1 cars in 2017 will smash through lap records as the current engine formula's potential is starting to be realised, as well as changes to the tyre and aerodynamic rules. The current engine formula of 1.6 litre turbocharged units was initially met with trepidation by fans when introduced ahead of the 2014 season, but speeds and efficiency have slowly increasing over the two and a half season since then. Record top speeds were recorded last weekend at the new Azerbaijani venue at the Baku City Circuit, while lap records that have stood since the 3 litre V10 era are now very close to being matched.
