Hamilton and Alonso in top twenty of highest paid athletes

Boxer Floyd Mayweather was the world's top earning sportsman of the past 12 months, according to a report by Forbes magazine, with reigning Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton in 15th. Hamilton earned $39 million during the course of last year, but he recently signed a lucrative new contract that could push him up the list next year. Fernando Alonso's move from Ferrari to McLaren did not affect his earnings as he banked $35.5 million and placed 17th on the list. Sebastian Vettel, who replaced Alonso at Ferrari, pocketed $33 million and saw him weigh-in 21st on the list and teammate Kimi Raikkonen's $27 million ranked him in 33rd place.
