Hamilton tops practice but reliability issues hits Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton posted the fastest time in the second practice session for the British Grand Prix, emerging as the fastest driver on Friday, but his run ended early due to reliability niggles. The Briton, who has failed to finish two races this season due to reliability issues, stopped on the track with half an hour remaining in the session, robbing him of valuable track time in front of his home fans. It was Hamilton’s engine that had failed but Mercedes confirmed that it wasn’t the one scheduled for the race on Sunday, which means that there will be no penalty for the 2008 world champion.
