Lotus wanted Schumacher to replace Raikkonen

In its search for a replacement for Kimi Raikkonen, Lotus contacted Michael Schumacher to drive in the final two races of the season as a replacement for the Finn, according to the Bild. In what could have been his second comeback from retirement, the 44-year-old seven-time world champion declined the offer preferring to continue his life outside of Formula 1. 'Michael would still be fit enough to race, but he has settled in his new life,' his manager Sabine Kehm told the Bild. Recent reports have indicated that it would be former Caterham driver Heikki Kovalainen who would step into the Lotus in Austin and Brazil.
