'Character-building afternoon' for Mercedes, says Wolff
The race at the Nurburgring was to show that Mercedes AMG Petronas are still having some difficulties in trying to solve the tyre issues that plague the team, even with the Pirelli test carried out in Barcelona not being really related to this season's tyres.
From the very start. it seemed that both drivers went backwards rather quicker than anyone in the Brackley-based squad had expected. However, a change to a three-stop strategy by Lewis Hamilton proved to be the better strategy, as the Stevenage driver was able to pass former team-mate Jenson Button on the last lap to secure P5, saying that it was 'really a tough race out there for us today.'
