Vergne: Friday pace a pleasant surprise
Toro Rosso driver Jean-Éric Vergne says he was pleasantly surprised by the squad's peformance at Silverstone on Friday, with the Frenchman and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo featuring firmly inside the top ten throughout both practice sessions. After Ricciardo topped a rain-hit opening session at the Northamptonshire venue, the STR duo continued their promising start to the weekend by finishing sixth and seventh respectively in the afternoon, with Vergne this time placing ahead of the Australian. "This afternoon, as soon as I left the garage, I could tell the car felt very good," Vergne told reporters in the Silverstone paddock. "It was easy to push and my lap times were good....
