F1: Round 1 to Mercedes

Shakedown stats suggest that Mercedes has reacted best to rules overhaul. While Ferrari might walk away feeling confident, Lewis Hamilton having posted the fastest time of the 5-day 'test', Mercedes clearly rules the roost. Quite simply, as we know nothing about fuel loads, tyre compounds or pretty much anything else - including the fact that most teams saw no point in such so-called glory runs - Hamilton's time, good as it was, albeit 4.802s off Oscar Piastri's 2025 pole-winning time, didn't really prove anything.
